The new gardens at Melaten

Small ponds and circular paths with Feng Shui instead of square and angular lines - so should look the cemetery of the future. How to implement this show, from 29 June, the new burial gardens Melaten.
The scent of fresh lavender, sage and roses. This smells that are reminiscent of a French market in Provence, come from the new burial garden of Cologne's oldest cemetery. "People should see the cemetery as a park, he should invite you to linger," said Josef Terfrüchte, managing director of the cooperative Cologne cemetery gardener. "In the cemetery do go the living."
Seven different gardens with different themes have emerged on Melaten. For simple urn burials there are the "traces of life" with curved limestone walls. The urns are buried in areas with lavender or sage. In Auengarten the tombs are built around a small pond.
The "Garden of Lights" is created in the style of a Japanese garden. Through the teachings of Feng Shui should feel the cemetery visitors. Park benches to relax. "Our goal was, to provide burial for any budget," said Terfrüchte.
Similar gardens are to follow on the other cemeteries.
